Emerald Ash Borer

Emerald Ash Borer treatment options Denver

Time to treat Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) now.

Denver property owners have probably tired of hearing about the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) for the last twelve years, but the iridescent beetle officially arrived in the City on June 17, 2025. The EAB is here to stay, and untreated Ash will die—it is just a matter of time. The borer has been active in most western suburbs, and untreated trees there are now starting to show decline. City forester offices across the Denver metropolitan area expect residential and commercial property owners to manage their Ash trees properly. Why not call a licensed, insured, trusted EAB treatment company with an A+ BBB rating? For convenience, we accept all major credit cards. Quick Facts from Colorado State University Extension Service

What does the EAB do?

  • Kills Ash trees! Most of the damage is unseen underneath the bark, so it’s hard to detect.
  • As EAB larvae feed, they eventually girdle the tree and cut off nutrients.
  • Trees usually die within 2-4 years of first symptoms, even previously healthy trees.
  • Trees of all sizes can be attacked, from 1/2-inch saplings to the largest mature trees.
  • The best time to treat Ash trees is in June and July.

EAB in Colorado

The green jewel beetle arrived in Boulder in 2013 and has moved along the Front Range toward Denver. There are confirmed sightings in Boulder, Broomfield, and Westminster. Arvada confirmed its presence within its city limits in 2020. In 2023, foresters confirmed EAB presence in Arapahoe County, within the City of Littleton near the border with Englewood, Greenwood Village, and Centennial. It arrived in Denver in 2025. Ash Trees Worth Saving?

Property owners with Ash trees must ask themselves how much they value them. Mature Ash trees are valuable and need proper EAB treatments since they have zero immunity against this borer. Ross Tree is a licensed Colorado Department of Agriculture Commercial Pesticide Applicator for Emerald Ash Borer treatment. We offer several effective EAB treatment options for controlling this beetle and its larvae. Our systemic formulations also treat Peachtree, Lilac, and Ash Borers. Trunk injections are cost-effective because they last two years and are environmentally friendly.

Ash tree value comes  from the following:

  1. A mature tree landscape adds 5 to 10 percent to a property’s value. Denver’s real estate market has shot up substantially since the 1990s, so the worth of mature trees in a yard landscape equates to the cost of a new automobile.
  2. Ash trees are beautiful and stately, so most homeowners will miss their trees when they die.
  3. Ash Borer treatment for large mature Ash is less expensive than removal. Large Ash tree removal may require a crane and obtain a street closing permit, which could dramatically increase removal costs.

EAB Treatment Options

Ross Tree recommends using a systemic bark spray up to five feet above the ground for young Ash trees. We prescribe trunk injections for mature trees using a tree’s vascular system to distribute the control product throughout the tree. The insects’ larvae or adults die when they chew on the tree’s nutrient-conducting tissues or leaves.
